Hit the road Jack

and don't yah come back no more, no more....

During the last election cycle  both Democrats and Republicans worked hard to elect members of their respective parties to seats in the New Hampshire House. Well nothing wrong with that - its the nature of this business.

After working as hard as they did why did the Democratic leadership instruct their members who did not support the Transgender bill to take a hike?

In our Constitutional Republic representative government is a cornerstome. Those who play footloose with it need to sit in a Civics 101 class.

Not only does the Democratic Leadership need to explain themselves about instructing their members to take a hike and unless those reps who did so do not each come up with a good reason why they walked away from the chamber the voters in their districst should not vote again for them and tell them all to "Hit the road Jack."

Mark,

They were protecting their governor. They gave him something he could veto with confidence and keep his moderate credentials. Problem is, he might actually get used to it and veto something else.

Whoever it is in the Democratic leadership who was behind this, you don't have to worry...they are mind numbingly stupid. It will definitely backfire.

And they made me regret having attacked the monolith.

In this crucial time in our country, and in this great state, the people of New Hampshire deserve better representation than what they're getting from this small element that has tried to hijack the democratic party. If these issues were so important, why did-they not campaign on them?

The liberal fringe pushing this agenda will soon find out this is New Hampshire, not San Fransisco. Unfortunately many good and sensible democrats may lose their seats next election because of this, while the "nut cases" get re-elected. Sad.

Is this what we have become? San Francisco bashers? I for one am pleased in the way the people of California are handling their problems. From gay marriage to having the courage to raise taxes to pay for the much needed social services, Californians have led the way. We should applaud them and follow their lead. Let's not get into name calling.

Nigel,
Do you even bother to read my blogs? This was not about gay rights. It is about party leaders telling their ranks to hide in the bathroom when the votes are taken

I did read your column, however I felt it necessary to respond to "E of Concord" and his remark. I have spent many vacations in San Fransisco and have found the quality of their citizens to be exemplary. I wish I could live there, but my job keeps me here in New Hampshire with all the northeast hillbillies.

Now concerning your column, I think the democratic leadership showed great wisdom in the way they directed their party. People are sheep and sheep need to be led. That is why leaders are elected and why party leadership is essential. The general public is not in the position to know the right thing to do in some areas. They must defer to those they elected to know and to do what is good for them. At times the public must be treated as children. Get on board with the program!
