Statement by House Majority Leader D.J. Bettencourt (Salem) regarding the Sale of State Assets to Balance the Budget
The following statement was issued this morning by House Majority Leader D.J. Bettencourt (Salem) with regard to the sale of state assets to balance the budget. The statement is in response to State Senator Lou D’Allensandro’s admission that assets could not be sold and the revenue “promised” by the Democrats could not be realized.
“I am deeply disappointed, but not surprised by a report from the commission to study New Hampshire’s assets. Republicans decried this accounting gimmick when it was offered last year as part of the shell game to fix the budget hole created by the Democrats. So it is no real surprise to us that the commission fell $59.6 Million short of its $60 Million goal. Our caucus is united in moving forward together to address the budget this year, we will not use smoke and mirrors or other ‘gimmicks’ to balance our budget – but make no mistake, our budget will be balanced and it will be responsible.”
