Election Blues

Blue dog Democrats have a problem.  MoveOn.org has set up a fund to beat them with a big blue newspaper to make sure they stay in line on upcoming votes on Health Care and Cap and Trade.  They are already running ads in some places to scare them into submission.  But two important Governors races just went for Republicans, (in places they were hoping to paint blue) so they have to consider a growing voter that does not favor democrats in traditionally republican locales. (Or even in traditionally democrat places like New Jersey).

At this point they need to decide who is a bigger threat to their political career.  MoveOn eats its young, representing as big a split on the left as any democrat has ever attempted to imagine on the right.  But the left never had a tent, and never pretended to have one except to trick voters into voting for democrats they intended to scare into voting as far left as possible.   Since voters have expressed growing disinterest in the massive shift leftward,  a candidate who claims to be a conservative democrat might seem like a commodity, but not to MoveOn and the radical left.  So they are as much in danger of losing their job from progressive smear tactics as from voter dissent.

So what's a dog to do?

If they vote on principle--that would be the ones they espoused to get into office--they might keep their office, but at the expense of abuse from their own party.  If they vote far left the constituency most likely has them put to sleep (politically).

So the election results Tuesday--whatever you may think of them--place the not so conservative Blue dogs in a very uncomfortable position.

Funny how fringe lefties are a boon to the democrats when they pressure moderates to go left but conservatives pushing moderates to the right is good for democrats.

""Democrats now think the upstarts could be a potential, albeit unintentional, ally in their bid to hold Congress in 2010. Moderate Republican candidates, Democrats think, are being pushed to the right in states that require them to stay centrist in order to win.""
